You are probably aware of skin peel treatment and may have thought about trying this beauty treatment method yourself. But how do skin peel treatments work? Are they as effective as they claim, and are they safe to use on your skin? Find out the facts here before considering whether you should opt for skin peel treatment yourself.
Types of Skin Peel Treatment
There are a range of skin peel treatments on the market, but the two most commonly used today are Glycolic Skin Peel and TCA Peel. They are both based on mild acids derived from fruit, which gently slough off dead skin, but TCA peel is a little stronger than glycolic skin peel treatment.
Glycolic Acid Peel
Glycolic acid is produced naturally by sugar cane. Glycolic skin peel treatment uses this mild acid to remove dirt and dead cells from the surface of the skin which encourages the growth of the healthy skin beneath. After several sessions of glycolic skin peel treatment – usually between 6 and 8 weekly sessions - the skin will be noticeably smoother and softer.
Glycolic skin peel treatment uses natural acids and so is extremely unlikely to give any harmful side effects as long as it has been applied by a qualified beauty therapist. Having said this, it is important to note that glycolic peel is not suitable for everybody, and you should not undergo glycolic skin peel treatment if you have been taking accutane medication in the last 12 months or if you have ever experienced kidney failure. Do not undergo any type of skin peel treatment if you have any open wounds, sores, or any other problems with skin health.
TCA Peels
TCA peel is a slightly stronger skin peel treatment than glycolic acid and as such works much more deeply in the skins surface. TCA peel can be used on the face or the hands to enhance your skin's health and appearance.
TCA peel works by removing the upper layers of the skin, making it look smoother and getting rid of lines and wrinkles. TCA skin peel treatment takes 15-30 minutes per session. The skin will begin to feel more taut and healthy almost immediately. Over the next few days, the top layers of skin will dry up and peel off, and the fresher, healthier skin beneath will be revealed.
After treatment with TCA peel your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight for 6-8 weeks. Protect it during this time by staying out of the sun and using a strong sun block. TCA skin peel treatment has not been found to give any harmful side effects.
